My Effortless Second Love

Tani Gray

With its amazing beaches, historical landmarks and majestic mountains, to include Table Mountain; South Africa and Cape Town in particular, provided me with a tiny feeling of "heaven touching earth". I am overjoyed that my visit to South Africa in 2011 and 2012 was not only a bucket list item but a dream that manifested itself into realism over time.

Cape Town provided me with both expected and unexpected experiences of self-examination, and a recognition of what truly matters between the time we are born, the life we live and the intangible legacy we leave behind. Hence, striving towards purposeful living and a willingness to live beyond self, should be a daily activity.

South Africa is definitely a beautiful country. However, the vote for my most loved African country led to Namibia being number one (1), with South Africa sitting at a strong number two (2) position and Zambia, proudly affirmed at the number three (3) spot. South Africa still has a huge chunk of my heart; it was on my second trip to South Africa, I truly began to understand my purpose and developed my love for humanitarianism.

Many people tend to view purpose through the eyes of their profession; for me, my purpose is not my profession. However, my profession serves as one of the many vehicles for which my God-given purpose is objectified. Giving back to those in need is not just a task for me, it is the very fabric of who I am. I honestly believe that humanitarianism and a sincere regard for human life is the very key to which we will be able to unearth our true human nature and potential to live a purposeful life.

Negril - A Place Perfectly Nestled in the Western Region of Jamaica

Tani Gray

There is a place perfectly nestled in the western region of Jamaica; a place called Negril. A place were reality stops for more than just a moment; a place where smiles return; where having fun is not a mere illusion of one's imagination.

There is a place perfectly nestled in the western region of Jamaica; a place called Negril. A place were reality stops for more than just a moment; a place where smiles return; where having fun is not a mere illusion of one's imagination.

There is a place called Negril; the perfect spot to refill one's depth; a place to reflect and recapture passions.

There is a place called Negril, where self-care is eventual; a place to hide away for a while; where sunsets are constant reminders of the simplicity of life; a place where emotions are expressed internally; a place where the "splashing" and "dashing" helps to quell the hurting, overworked and worrying nature of mankind; a place where the ambiance reflects the peace of mind needed to overcome life's voyages.

There is a place called Negril; unpretentious, yet powerful; a place where the mind is at peace; a place where white skin and black skin men jump and prance; a place where tongue twisting Jamaicans chill and make the visit for foreigners a memorable one.

There is a place called Negril, where roots-rock reggae prevails; a place where lessons from self-reflection are appreciated; a place to relax and treasure every moment alive; a place where giving thanks is more than just a hurried ten seconds prayer.

There is a place called Negril, where the sea breeze caresses the skin; a place where sailboats jog your memory of past journeys, yet provide the strength needed to face voyages ahead. Life is our ocean, our determinism is our lifeguard and hope is our vessel.

There is a place called Negril, where the wide-open ocean presents a journey blessed with rough seas; the roughness determines the strength of the vessel, and the ability to overcome the despairing thought of being lost at sea. There is a place perfectly nestled in the western region of Jamaica, called Negril.

A Promise to Visit Kaieteur Falls on my Next Trip to Guyana

Tani Gray

I've travelled to Guyana, South America three times, yet for some reason; Kaieteur Falls have eluded me. While it is a very daunting task to journey to Kaieteur Falls, I do intend to make the trip, if granted a fourth opportunity to visit Guyana.

A view of the waterfall can only be accessed by plane from either Ogle or Georgetown Airport. Flights from Georgetown to Kaieteur Falls takes an average of 45 to 50 minutes. Kaieteur Falls is located in the Amazon region of Guyana, South America, and is considered to be the world's widest single drop waterfall embedded in the untouched landscape of the Amazon jungle.

Guyana is located on the northern coast of South America, between Venezuela and Brazil and it the only English-speaking country on the South American Continent. When translated, Guyana is associated with the meaning, "land of many waters"; almost 1000km of the country is navigable by rivers. In this regard, Kaieteur Falls is located on the Potaro River in Kaieteur National Park. According to local sources, water from the Fall, plummets from 251 m (822 ft) high off the cliff's edge, making it one of the world's most powerful waterfalls regarding water volume and speed.
