Taking Jamaica to the beautiful Danau Bedugul Temple, Bali Indonesia
Tani D. Gray
In December of 2017, myself and a few friends travelled to Bali, Indonesia on vacation. On one of our day tours, we decided to stop at the Danau Bedugul. I found it to be a very interesting place to include the temple itself.
According to locals, the history of the Ulun Danu temple came about during the rise of the Mengwi kingdom. The Temple incorporates four sets of shrines, to including the Lingga Petak shrine, the most popular of the four, which is to the east. The second set of shrines are located in the west, at the Hill of Puncak Mangu. The Hill of Puncak Mangu is observed as the symbol of soil fertility and sits northeast of Lake Beratan. The Puncak Mangu temple was built in the 17th century to pay homage to the Hindu trinity, Brahma-Vishnu-Shiva and the Dewi Danu, known to be the lake goddess.
